Abbreviations and definitions
| Abbreviation | Definition |

| FTC | First Time College A student entering any college for the first time. For reporting purposes, this category includes students enrolled in the fall semester who entered college for the first time in the prior summer, and students entering with advanced standing who may actually be classified as sophomores. A student will be classified as an FTC only once. |
| FR | Freshman An undergraduate student who has not earned at least 30 hours. |
| SOPH | Sophomore An undergraduate student who has earned at least 30 but fewer than 60 semester credit hours. |
| JR | Junior An undergraduate student who has earned at least 60 but fewer than 90 semester credit hours. |
| SR | Senior An undergraduate student who has earned at least 90 semester credit hours. |
| ED SPEC | Education Specialist A graduate student working on an academic degree in education beyond the master's degree and before the doctoral degree. |
| 1ST PROF | First Professional Student A student working on the first academic degree in a professional field. The following first professional degrees are available at MU: Law, JD; Medicine, MD; and Veterinary Medicine, DVM. |
| UNDERGRAD | Undergraduate Student A student working on a bachelor's degree program. |
| GRAD | Graduate Student A student who has been awarded an earned baccalaureate degree and who is enrolled in credit courses at the graduate level. |
| CONTINUING | Continuing Student A student enrolled during the previous academic term. |
| RE-ADMIT | Re-admit A student previously enrolled, but not enrolled during the academic term immediately preceding the current term. |
| GPA | Grade Point Average The measure of academic performance calculated by assigning point to course grades. At MU 4.0 is a straight 'A/A+' GPA. |
| ACT | American College Testing (Program) Scores on the Enhanced ACT test range between 1 and 36. Subscores include English, Math, Reading and Science Reasoning. |
