Refund of educational fees

Students who drop one or more courses or withdraw completely within the first 37 days of the term will have their refund automatically processed according to this schedule. A student is responsible for the appropriate fees for that semester, regardless of whether the fees have been paid in total at the time of the drop or withdrawal.

If there is a balance due on the student account at the time a refund is processed, the refund will be applied to that outstanding balance. Learn more about refund conditions.

Students who expect to receive a refund should confirm that their current address is updated in myZou.

Refund appeals

In some cases, students experience circumstances beyond their control that cause them to drop or withdraw, enroll late or otherwise make changes to their schedules. Students who wish to seek an adjustment to their assessed fees should follow the steps below and read the complete refund policy.

Refund appeal procedure

The refund appeal process is separate from petitions to have grades or academic records changed. See your dean’s office for information on appealing academic records.

  1. Complete the drop or withdrawal process for the course work for which you are submitting the refund appeal. (If you have not completed the drop or withdrawal process, you will need to submit a petition to the committee on revision of records requesting a backdated withdrawal or course drop.)
  2. Complete the refund appeal form (PDF) and provide any appropriate medical documentation or signature of academic official to support the appeal.
  3. Return the completed form to the Office of the University Registrar. You should make a copy for your records.
  4. You will be notified in writing of the decision.
