Ordering Regalia

Traditional academic regalia is worn by participating faculty and students in all commencement ceremonies at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The type of dress originated in the 12th century, and standard codes of dress were adopted by American institutions in the late 19th century. Visit the History of the Cap and Gown for more details.

There are different elements worn by faculty, undergraduate students and graduate and professional students.

Undergraduate students

Purchase regalia from  The Mizzou Store in the Student Center. Bachelor keepsake sets (cap, gown and tassel) are available until graduation. Contact  The Mizzou Store for current prices.

When ordering the regalia, BE SURE TO inform The Mizzou Store that you are an undergraduate student.

There are different kinds of caps and gowns for each level of degree. See the history of the cap and gown for more details.

There also are specific regalia trim colors for your area of discipline.

Graduate and professional students

Purchase regalia (cap, gown and tassel) from  The Mizzou Store in Student Center.

Master's keepsake regalia (cap, gown and tassel) is available for purchase from The Mizzou Store. Contact  The Mizzou Store for current prices.

Doctoral regalia (cap, gown and tassel) is available for purchase. Contact  The Mizzou Store for current price information. The deadline to purchase doctoral regalia is approximately 1 month in advance of graduation. Doctoral hoods can be purchased from The Mizzou Store if you are participating in this event.

Doctoral degree candidates wear gold tassels; master's candidates wear black.

When ordering the regalia, BE SURE TO inform The Mizzou Store that you are a master's or doctoral student.

Faculty

Order/purchase regalia (cap, gown and tassel) from  The Mizzou Store in the Student Center no later than 1 month in advance of graduation.

When ordering the regalia, BE SURE TO inform The Mizzou Store that you are a faculty member.

There also are specific tassel colors for your department's area of discipline.
